The Concise Biography of Hakim al-Ummah, Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (رحمه الله تعالى)
The personality of Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (رحمه الله تعالى) does not require any introduction among Muslims. In this modern, simplified version of his biography, difficult words have been avoided to suit contemporary tastes.
Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi’ Usmani (رحمه الله تعالى) writes:
“Every step of the life of Hakim al-Ummah (رحمه الله تعالى) is a lesson in life for the Ummah. The important events of his blessed life were initially recorded in three large volumes by his close disciple, Hazrat Khawaja Aziz al-Hasan Majzoub (رحمه الله تعالى). The fourth volume was written after his death. These four volumes provide only a summary of his life. Today, there was a need to condense these details so that Muslims, especially in the present day, could easily study them.”
Maulana Shams al-Haq, the head of Ashraf al-Uloom Madrasa in Dhaka, writes:
“New graduates, after completing their studies, often begin to overindulge in politics and economics. By learning from the biography of Hakim al-Ummah (رحمه الله تعالى) and following his example, they will be able to distance themselves from extremes and develop the correct spirit of dedication for Islam, leading them to walk on the path of moderation.”
This new edition, published by Idara Talifat Ashrafiya, includes colorful images of the inner and outer views of Hazrat Thanvi’s Khanqah, mosque, and madrasa. Additionally, a picture of the shrine of Ashraf al-Ummah and a scene of the “Panj Dara” (Five Pillars) are also included.
